Wooden masks and figures
Two million refugees, a devastated infrastructure, poverty and thousands of landmines: Angola has been suffering from a civil war for almost 30 years now. Fortunately, peace has now been restored to some extent.
Angola is in southern Africa and has a tropical climate. There are actually considerable differences in the climate between east and west and north and south. In Luanda and the region to the north of the capital, which has the most visitors, the climate is stiflingly hot and humid between November and May. The best time to visit this region is therefore from mid-May to October, when the climate is dry and relatively cool.
In Angola, you can encounter a diversity of wild animals: lions, hyenas, elephants and antelopes. Apes, hippopotamuses and crocodiles are also indigenous to this country. In the Namib Desert, which is situated in the south-west, you can find the tumboa, a unique plant with two wide leaves that are several metres long and lie on the ground of the desert. You will certainly want to bring back a wooden mask or another kind of wooden figure as a souvenir.
