Wander through the pusztas
With delicious wine, long walks and peaceful relaxation by the banks of the Danube, Hungary, and especially its magnificent capital, Budapest, are top attractions.
Hungary is a popular destination because of its magnificent countryside. A number of national parks are open to visitors. The parks of Bugac and Hortobagy are certainly worth a visit. Visitors can walk alongside lakes and through woods and Hungarian pusztas. Hungary is well known for its pusztas, which are wide, thinly populated steppes. Also worth a visit are the Hungarian wine-growing areas, of which there are more than 20.
Two important rivers, the Danube and the Tisza, flow through Hungary. The Danube is a river with quite a number of important cultural towns situated on its banks. However, Hungarians prefer the Tisza, a peaceful river that flows past small villages and wide steppes. It is full of fish and its banks therefore form an ideal habitat for a large number of birds and other animals.
