Pearls of the Mediterranean   

The Maltese archipelago, consisting of 5 islands, the biggest of which are Malta, Gozo and Comino, is situated in the middle of the Mediterranean. This group of islands has a mild climate and a fascinating history, with a strong English influence. 

The history of Malta stretches back further than 4,000 B.C. Malta was a British colony from 1800, but the islands became independent in 1964, with a President as Head of State. The mild climate has enabled a large number of historic ruins to survive in good condition.

In addition to the marvellous temples and palaces, the countryside of Malta is also highly recommended. Bright blue sea with cliffs and caves make these islands to the south of the Italian island of Sicily very popular among divers.
