    About Lomé

Being the capital and largest city of Togo, Lomé relies on its port to export products like coffee and cocoa. The city is situated in the south west of Togo.

Lomé is a typical African city: many styles, influences and traditions are mixed. The landscape combines red earth with large boulevards, green gardens and colourful houses.

The city features a special voodoo market. If you are not into voodoo, the beaches and the Grand Market are worth a visit.

As in most equatorial climates, Lomé has two rainy seasons (April to July and September to November). The temperature is stable with an average maximum of 30°C, so beware of the afternoon heat! Dry winds from the Sahara bring down the temperature in the morning.

    Our suggestions:

SLEEP Set in the grounds of a tropical garden on the edge of a lagoon, Hôtel Napoléon Lagune (Rue 20 1, Bê, napotogo) boasts clean and comfortable air-conditioned rooms, an on-site restaurant and bars and a swimming pool. It’s convenient for the airport, city centre, museum, market and Lomé Beach.
EAT One of the most exclusive restaurants in Lomé is Le Béluga (Rue de l'Entente, www.beluga.tg). Seasonal gourmet dishes are prepared by a Paris-trained chef, and diners sit outside on the terrace. If you’re here for a drink, relax with a cocktail in the piano bar.

    • Just a 45-minute drive from Lomé is Lake Togo. Go for a swim, then take a pirogue ride to the north bank’s Togoville, where you can visit shrines and drop by the ancient German cathedral or the traditional museum the King of Togoville.
    • Le Grand Marché (Rue du Grand Marché) is one of the largest and most famous markets in the region. Almost anything can be purchased here, including fabrics, tools and household goods, and everything is “cheap, cheap” or “gift price”.
    • Bar Domino (Rue de la Gare, Quartier Assivito, www.facebook.com/dominobardenuit) gets lively in the evenings, thanks to its small dance area. These guys serve a vast selection of artisanal beers and a dozen types of whisky.
PRACTICAL INFO Lomé Internatioanl Airport (airport code: LFW) is 6km from the centre of Lomé. Taxis cost from around CFA1,000/€1.50 to CFA5,000/€7.60, depending on where your hotel is. Or ask your hotel about their shuttle service.
