Brussels Airlines serves the best wine and champagne on board

Brussels Airlines serves the best champagne and wine in Business Class, according to the international wine jury of the annual “Wines on the Wing” competition, organized by the American travel magazine Global Traveler. The airline was awarded in both the Business Class Champagnes and Wine category.
The wine selection that Brussels Airlines offers to its Business Class passengers was again awarded. Last year already Brussels Airlines received the first prize in the category ‘Best Business Class Wines’ and this year that result has been confirmed during the Global Traveler 'Wines on the Wing' competition. The airline also came out first in the category ‘Best Business Class Champagnes’ thanks to the Laurent Perrier Brut champagne it serves onboard.
34 international airlines participated to the annual wine competition this year. Brussels Airlines had to compete with competitors from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. The 25 jurors – all wine experts working in renowned restaurants, hotels, wineries and specialized media – praised the wines the airline offers to its Business Class passengers on board their long haul flights to the US and Africa.
Brussels Airlines’ wine list is created by the airline’s catering managers Philip Mortier and Johan Duwijn, in close cooperation with the Belgian Master of Wine Fiona Morisson and a tasting panel made up of staff and frequent travelers. The wine offer always includes a well-known French chateau, a wine from the New World countries and a wine of the month. This month for example, Brussels Airlines crews are serving the French Burgundy Château des Jacques Clos de Loyse (2011), Château la Grangère (2009) from St-Emilion, the Californian Kendall Jackson (2011), Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc from the South African Cape region, Chilean Mones Alfa Syrah (2010) and El Albar Barricas (2008) from the Spanish Castilla y León.
For a few years now Brussels Airlines includes Belgian wines in its selection, something that is very much appreciated by their passengers. This fall that Belgian selection will include Entre Deux Monts (2011), Aldeneycke Pinot Gris (2011) and De Kluizen Kerner (2010).

They have to match our dishes and the changed taste experience in the sky”, say Philip Mortier and Johan Duwijn. “Another very important factor in the choice of our wines is the feedback from our passengers”. The two Wines on the Wing Awards are a reward for our efforts, but also a challenge to maintain this high quality and varied wine list in the future.”
