The image that many people have of China from reading history books is completely at odds with the current situation. The major cities in particular have become westernised and are a textbook example of dynamic change and economic growth.
Beijing, or Peking as it is perhaps better known to the majority of Europeans, is the capital of China and home to approximately 15 million inhabitants.
Originally a little fishing town, Shanghai is today, with around 20 million inhabitants, one of the most influential metropolis in Eastern Asia.
