Check-in
You can always use the check-in options of the airline operating your first flight.
This means, for example, that you can use the check-in options of Brussels Airlines when connecting from Brussels Airlines to United Airlines. You will usually also then be given your boarding pass for your connecting flight with United Airlines.
If your first flight is operated by United Airlines, please use the check-in options offered by our partner airline. With United Airlines, you can check in online or via the United Airlines app from 24 hours before departure. Please use your United Airlines reservation details you received after booking.
If online or mobile check-in is not available, you can, of course, also check in at an airport self-service check-in kiosk or at the check-in counter.
United Airlines has specified time limits for checking in passengers and baggage. Specific time slots apply depending on the airport and flight.
Please familiarise yourself with the current check-in times and further information about the processes at the airport.
For international flights, please be sure to carry all required travel documents, such as your passport or visa.
If you have a connecting flight from the USA or Canada to Europe or from Europe to the USA or Canada, you can generally check in for the entire route right away. You will then also receive a boarding pass for your connecting flight.
Connecting flights
In the case of a connecting flight, checked baggage must be collected from the connecting airport upon first entry to the USA and taken through border control before you can drop it off again for your connecting flight. There is generally a specific area for this at baggage reclaim. Therefore, it’s best to indicate at baggage drop-off for your first flight that you have a connecting flight, so that your baggage is checked in correctly.
If you are travelling from the USA to Europe, your baggage is usually transferred directly when you change flights, and you can pick it up again at the destination airport.
If you are using the United Airlines app for your United Airlines flight, you can use it to find out about your United Airlines connecting flight in good time. Simply check the app after you arrive at the connecting airport if your device is connected to the internet.
For Brussels Airlines flights, please check the Brussels Airlines app for your connecting flight with Brussels Airlines. Alternatively, you can check airport departure screens for departure times. These can often be found adjacent to your arrival gate.
The terminals used by airlines for arrivals and departures may vary depending on the airport and for international and domestic flights. We therefore recommend that you always check the website of your departure and/or transfer airport to see which terminals are used by the relevant airlines.
If you miss your connecting flight due to a delay, for example, the airline responsible will normally automatically rebook you. As soon as you’ve been rebooked, you will be notified by United Airlines or Brussels Airlines via the contact information you have provided (e.g. by email). If you have not received any notifications or if you require further assistance, you can contact our service team at the airport at any time.
