This region has an ideal climate for tourists, and life is as good there in winter as it is in summer.

Today, Tivat is an essential stop for any visit to Montenegro. Whilst it may be the smallest town in the country, it is packed with lots of attractions. It’s the perfect destination to combine entertainment and culture, lazing on the beach, and hiking in the mountains.

    What to do in Tivat?

    1. The Renaissance Summer House Buca with its beautiful park setting, and Tivat botanical garden are two highlights not to be missed on any visit to the town. The botanical garden has a rare beauty. As you immerse yourself amongst the exotic flora and fauna from the four corners of the world, you’ll be oblivious of the time!
    2. Just 3 km from Tivat is Gornja Lastva, a typical little village set in the mountains. Abandoned by its inhabitants over time, it is almost uninhabited now. With its stone houses and unrestricted view of the Bay of Kotor, the village is a fascinating place. For hikers, there’s a path out of Tivat that leads you there. From Gornja Lastva you can continue on to Kotor. The hike takes around 5 hours, and offers unrestricted views of the sea and mountains.
    3. If you don’t want to go there on foot, take a bus or hire a car, but make sure you end up at the Bay of Kotor. A UNESCO world heritage site, this area offers picture-postcard landscapes of the sea and the mountains. An unmissable part of any trip to Montenegro, this southern fjord sprinkled with circles of islands will certainly leave an impression.
    4. Want to laze on the beach? The Tivat coastline has over 20 different shingle or sandy beaches for you to enjoy. You’ll be spoilt for choice. For a bit of peace and quiet go to the lagoon at Kukoljina, or enjoy some water sports. You can also discover Donja Lastva, where an archaeological site harbours vestiges of the Roman Empire.
    5. Montenegro is distinguished by its monasteries, which history lovers will enjoy discovering. Just 6 km from Tivat is the famous Monastery of Holy Archangel Michael, located on the island known as “the island of flowers” near to Miholjska prevlaka. Both places are well worth a detour.
    6. Fancy something a little more modern? Then escape to Sveti Marko Island to see the most beautiful architectural complex in the area. Modern chalets surrounded by greenery, sports facilities, and cafés await you.
