    About Rotterdam

Some travel dates might not be available due to engineering works. More info here >>

Rotterdam is the second largest city of the Netherlands and is located at the North Sea. The city’s name dates back to the 13th century, when people settled around a dam constructed in the river Rotte. Rotterdam quickly became a logistic and economic centre and is nowadays home to the largest port in Europe and the 10th largest in the world.

Rotterdam’s architecture is modern and the city is filled with sky-scrapers, which is an uncommon sight compared to other Dutch cities. During the Second World War, the city was nearly completely destroyed and had to be rebuilt entirely. Among the many modern buildings and structures are the Euromast, the cable stayed Erasmus Bridge, the curious Cube Houses, the architectural Food Hall, and the magnificent Central Train Station.

Besides the many sightseeing, the city is filled with culture, is home to a great shopping area and has been an ever-evolving tale. In 2001, Rotterdam was named the European Capital of Culture and in 2015 it even got chosen as the European city of the year. Do not hesitate any longer and plan your trip to this extraordinary and intercultural city. We bet you’ll have the time of your life.

In partnership with the InterCity Brussels-Amsterdam, Brussels Airlines offers a daily connection between Rotterdam Central Station and Brussels Airport. More info >>
