Brussels Airlines: record passenger growth of 12% in April

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 Brussels Airlines registers a strong passenger growth for the month of April 2014 (12%). A total of 585.477 passengers opted for a Brussels Airlines flight, which is a record in the history of the airline.

Never before has Brussels Airlines transported as many passengers as during the past month of April. Compared to April 2013 the airline flew 62,000 more passengers to their destinations. The European network drew 10.6 percent more passengers and achieved an average seat load factor of 77 percent (up 4.5 percentage points). The flights to Africa and the United States also recorded a strong passenger growth of 20.3 percent.

Thanks to the passenger increase, the overall passenger load factor increased by 3.7 percentage points.

The strong growth is due to the popular Easter holiday period, the launch of new destinations Athens and Seville and the passenger growth on the long haul network. With its vast network, Brussels Airlines targets not only city trippers and vacationers, but also business travelers.

The cargo activities of Brussels Airlines have also grown significantly compared to April 2013 (+14,4 percent).

In addition to its scheduled flight activity, Brussels Airlines operates many holiday flights for tour operators and incentive agencies. Passenger figures for this charter activity are not included in the monthly figures of this press release.
