    About Winnipeg

Winnipeg is the capital city of the province of Manitoba and is the seventh largest municipality in Canada. The city is named after nearby Lake Winnipeg and is situated at the crossing of the rivers Assiniboine and Red, often referred to as The Forks.

Nowadays, The Forks is known as a shopping and entertainment district and one of the favourite places in Winnipeg. Spot local artisan creations, enjoy regional cuisine or just relax by the riverside. Other attraction highlights include the Assiniboine Park, the Manitoba Museum and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, known for its unique design and one of the most important landmarks of the city.

The area of Winnipeg used to be a gathering place for aboriginal people for many centuries. Up until today, you can still see their heritage in this multicultural and folklore city. Winnipeg’s history is celebrated every summer during many festivals with Folklorama being the most important and the world’s largest multicultural festival.

If you wish to enjoy the beautiful and still wild nature surrounding Winnipeg, there are many directions to go to. For a one day getaway you can head to Fort Whyte Alive, a 259 hectares area with several lakes, grassy parklands and bog boardwalks. It’s the perfect place for a canoe or kayak trip or for a long walk to watch and spot bison herds.
