About Hamburg
Hamburg is a true cultural metropolis. It has over 30 theatres, 6 playhouses and 50 museums. It is therefore well worth a visit.
Hamburg is situated on the River Elbe and its 1.7 million inhabitants make it Germany’s second biggest city. The most important tourist attractions include the Alster, a large lake in the city centre. It is a paradise for sailing, rowing and canoeing. Another sight is the city hall, a sandstone building in the Neo-renaissance style from the end of the 19th century.
Hamburg’s cultural attractions are never-ending. The Kunsthalle, which is a magnificent art gallery, and the State Opera are certainly worth a visit. The banks of the Elbe and the Alster are ideal for a romantic stroll. Don’t forget to go and sample the distinctive atmosphere around the harbour, which is the biggest in Germany.
