Flights to Albania

Albania is a small country in south-eastern Europe, located between Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia and Greece. Bordered by the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, it’s less than 72 kilometres from Italy, whose coast is visible on the very clearest days. After the collapse in 1990 of the iron regime installed by Enver Hoxha, which had put the country in a state of profound poverty and near total isolation, Albania has experienced a long period of transition leading to an extraordinary political, economic and social transformation. Today, Albania is one of the next potential candidates to join the European Union and one of the most interesting countries in the Balkan region. Lively, noisy and colourful, Tirana is the capital of Albania and is its beating heart. Away from the capital, the country offers more gems worth a visit, such as the scenic Ohrid Lake declared a World Heritage by UNESCO, the ancient Greek and Roman ruins of Butrint, the fascinating historical centres of Berat and Gjirokaster that bear traces of the long Ottoman domination that the country was subject to, and the beautiful southern coastline between Vlore and Saranda.
