    Flights to Almería, Spain

Almería, located in the southeast of Spain and along the Mediterranean Sea, is mostly known as an archaeological site with centuries of history.
The city suffered a devastating earthquake in 1522, leaving it in ruins. It wasn’t until the 19th century that Almería got rebuilt. Only a few decades later, during the Spanish Civil War the city was shelled by the German Navy and it fell into the hands of military dictator Franco.

Despite its past, Almería has turned into a beautiful, visitor-friendly city without losing the cultural heritage from its turbulent history. So if you’re looking for a cultural getaway, Almería has what you’re looking for.

So don’t wait a moment longer, and book your Brussels Airlines ticket to Almería!

    What to do in Almería?

    1. The Alcazaba, founded by Emir Abd-ar-Rahman III is one of the city’s main attractions. It is, after the Alhambra in Granada, the second largest Moorish fortification, as it has been rebuilt and expanded a couple of times after the 1522 earthquake. The fortress includes a triple line of walls and large gardens. Connected by a line of walls is the Castle of San Cristobal.
    2. Underground shelters were built for civil protection during the Spanish Civil War. The shelters are more than 4.5 km long and could safeguard around 40,000 civilians. They were equipped with food storage rooms and surgery rooms.
    3. The Cathedral of Almería was initially designated to be a Mosque and has, due to its towers, merlons and protected paths, the appearance of a fortress. It was used to protect the city from Mediterranean pirates until it was destroyed in the earthquake of 1522. Later on, in the 16th century, it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style and converted into a Christian church.
    4. Tired of all the archaeological sights? Spend some time at the Mediterranean beach or go inland to theme park Oasys Mini Hollywood, which includes a western town, a zoological reserve and an aquatic zone. Fun guaranteed if you’re travelling with kids!
    5. Don’t miss out on Cabo de Gata - Nijar Natural Park. It’s simply one of the best places in the surroundings of Almería. You will discover incredible landscapes, long beaches and an authentic lighthouse.
