    About Amsterdam

Some travel dates might not be available due to engineering works. More info here >>

Amsterdam is the capital of The Netherlands. Its canals, typical houses and laidback atmosphere make it one of Europe’s most picturesque capitals. There is just so much to see in Amsterdam, you’ll be spoilt for choice! The easiest way to familiarize yourself with the city is by taking a canal boat tour. A good starting point is the central train station, a gorgeous building worth seeing, as plenty of canal cruises start here. Or, if you prefer to do as the locals do, rent a bike and follow the Damrak, the main street that goes right through the city centre on to Dam Square. This hive of activity offers a great first look on the capital and is perfect for souvenirs shopping as well.

The Dutch capital is famous for its many canals but the most notable are the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. These quintessential Dutch canals shape the city and are an absolute must-see. Between the Prinsengracht and the Singelgracht you’ll find the Jordaan District, the most scenic part of town. Wander down narrow streets with gorgeous houses and discover where the locals shop and dine.

Each city has some notable museums but in Amsterdam you’ll truly find the cream of the crop. On the Museumplein you’ll find the most important ones such as the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum with its impressive collection of Dutch masterpieces such as Rembrandt’s "Night Watch". If you want to see more of Rembrandt’s life and work, you can also visit the Rembrandthuis, where he used the live. Another must-visit museum is the Anne Frank House. Visit the house, located on the Prinsengracht, where Anne Frank hid during WWII and relive her tragic story.

If you’re looking for more than typical souvenirs to bring home, Amsterdam’s got you covered! The Jordaan District is a good place to shop, with many quaint little boutiques and design stores. But if you’re looking for hidden treasures and unique items, you’ll want to wander into the Negen Straatjes, this charming district with narrow cobbled streets is filled to the brim with one of a kind boutiques and quirky shops. Stumbling upon that one unique store is part of the fun in this district!

Looking for the best night out in Amsterdam? Head to the Leidenseplein this square is known as the city’s nightlife centre. Take your pick from the best bars and clubs that Amsterdam has to offer and party until sunrise!

In partnership with the InterCity Brussels-Amsterdam, Brussels Airlines offers a daily connection between Amsterdam Central Station/ Amsterdam Schiphol and Brussels Airport. More info >>
