Seat reservation

Find out more about seat selection, seat categories and how to reserve a seat. Find out why your seat reservation guarantees a seat within a specific seat category, but not a specific seat.

Also visit our seat reservation page to find out about the available options for your booking.

Seat selection

With a seat reservation, you can reserve a specific seat category (e.g. Classic Seat, Preferred Zone Seat, Extra Legroom Seat) from a selection of available seats. If your fare does not include a free advance seat reservation or you do not make use of it, you will be automatically assigned a seat during online check-in. A seat reservation applies to a single leg of your flight. All seat bookings are subject to the General Conditions of Carriage for Passengers and Baggage.

If your fare includes a free seat reservation, you can reserve a seat at the time of booking, online under My bookings or later at check-in. If your fare does not include a free seat reservation, you can make an advance seat reservation for a fee that depends on your fare type and the seat category selected.

For flights operated by Brussels Airlines, you can make an advance seat reservation up to two hours before the scheduled departure time of your flight. An advance seat reservation is subject to the availability of the preferred seats and applies to a single leg of your flight. Charges quoted on brusselsairlines.com are billed in the currency of the departure country. Online offers, fares or conditions may change at any time without notice. The selection of bookable passenger seats varies depending on supply and demand.

Please note that a confirmed advance seat reservation does not guarantee a specific seat on board the aircraft (e.g. seat 3A). The advance seat reservation refers to the selected seat category (e.g. Classic Seat, Preferred Zone Seat, Extra Legroom Seat, etc.).

Your seat may change for operational reasons. Although we do our best to avoid such changes, we cannot guarantee that you will keep the seat you originally selected. You are entitled to a refund if we are unable to offer you a seat in the category you booked.

There are two different types of seat map. We can offer you a detailed seat map for flights operated by the Lufthansa Group. For any flights operated by partner airlines, only a simplified version of the seat map is available.

Children aged two or over, or children who will turn two during the trip, require their own seat. For seat reservations, the same conditions apply as for adults. If your child is flying alone, read more about our care service for unaccompanied children.

In accordance with the ENAC regulation (Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile [Italian Civil Aviation Authority]), we are obliged to inform you that you are entitled to a free seat reservation (Classic Seat) on flights to and from Italy if you are travelling with a child between two and twelve years of age. The Lufthansa Group will therefore seat you together free of charge at check-in.

On flights to and from Canada: if we are not able to seat your child near an adult in your group, you can rebook your flight or cancel your trip.

On long-haul flights, cots are available for children under two years of age. A cot must be booked separately and before the seat reservation. If you have a child under two years old travelling with you, you also have the option of booking a seat and bringing an appropriate child restraint system, such as a baby carrier or child car seat, on board with you.

For more information on how to book a cot free of charge, please see our Help section.

For children who are under two years of age, please read our tips on travelling with children to find out more.

Disabled passengers and a travelling companion can reserve seats free of charge if the relevant conditions are met. Please visit our accessible travel page for additional information about our services for disabled passengers, such as those with reduced mobility or sensory impairments.

Please note that in accordance with the ENAC (Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile) regulation, you are entitled to free advance seat reservation (Classic Seat) on flights to and from Italy if you are a passenger with a disability or are accompanying a passenger with a disability. We will reserve seats next to each other for you free of charge during check-in.

You can make or change a seat reservation via Brussels Airlines if you purchased your ticket through a third party (e.g. travel agency). Simply visit our website, and enter your details in the Amend booking section. You can then make a seat reservation for the flights displayed in your booking.

My booking

Seat reservations are only available to passengers who have booked a flight operated by Brussels Airlines with tickets issued. You can reserve your seat either at the time of booking, online in the “My bookings” section up to two hours before departure or at check-in. Please note that all seat reservations are subject to availability. If your fare only includes the automatic allocation of a seat, seat reservation is subject to a charge.

You can easily reserve your seat online during the booking process, at a later date under My bookings or during check-in. Simply select a seat for each passenger, confirm your selection and pay if necessary.

Please note that in some cases it is not possible to reserve a seat, e.g. if you are not eligible for a seat reservation or if an attempt is made to reserve a seat outside the specified time frame. In such cases, the seat map in your profile will be deactivated.

You can book seats for different passengers individually in different seat categories. It is possible to reserve seats for all passengers with the same booking reference or only for a few of them. Please note that a maximum of one seat is bookable per passenger per flight leg.

Please be aware that seat reservations are not transferable.

Your seat reservation may need to be adjusted for operational reasons. Although we do our best to avoid this adjustment, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the seat you originally selected. You are entitled to a refund of the fee for your seat reservation if we are unable to book you a seat in the category you reserved. Please note that the fee for an advance seat reservation does not entitle you to a specific seat (e.g. seat 3A), but to a specific seat category (e.g. Classic Seat).

You can complete or change an advance seat reservation via Brussels Airlines even if you purchased your ticket through a third party (e.g. a travel agency). Simply visit our website, and enter your details in the Amend booking section. You can then make a seat reservation for the flights displayed in your booking.

Seat reservations are possible for all flights operated by the Lufthansa Group, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines or Air Dolomiti. If a route is operated by one of our selected partner airlines and booked in combination with a Lufthansa Group flight, you can reserve a seat in advance.

Open your trip under My bookings to see whether you can book a seat with our partner airline. Although we cannot guarantee that passengers will sit next to each other, we always strive to seat passengers travelling together alongside each other.

If you add a seat reservation during the booking process, you can use any of the payment methods currently offered on brusselsairlines.com. Please note that online seat reservations made at a later date or during seat sale at the check-in desk can only be paid for by credit card.

At this time, it is not possible to pay for a seat reservation with Miles & More.

You can change the seat that you have already reserved. There are no additional costs for any changes within the same seat category. Please note that the price difference will not be refunded if you choose a seat in a lower seat category. If you choose a seat in a higher seat category, you will have to pay the price difference.

Yes, you can reserve seats for all passengers within your group. For each route, you can select available seats on the seat map individually for each passenger. Please also note our terms and conditions for group bookings if you are travelling with ten or more people.

If you made a seat reservation before the upgrade and your new travel class includes a seat reservation as standard, you are entitled to a refund of the fee you paid for the seat reservation.

HON Circle Members and Senators are entitled to a free seat reservation for themselves and up to eight travelling companions on the same booking on flights with Brussels Airlines, Austrian, Lufthansa and SWISS. This benefit is subject to availability and does not apply to Economy Light bookings on short-haul flights. The Economy Light fare only offers HON Circle Members free advance seat selection during online check-in for short-haul flights.

For all First and Business Class passengers, free Classic Seat reservation is included in the fare.

You won’t incur an additional Optional Payment Charge (OPC) for booking changes such as seat reservations and other services added at a later date. The OPC is only charged once and does not apply to booking insurance, making seat reservations, booking additional baggage, etc., nor to additional payments for rebookings at a later date.

Seat categories

If your fare includes a free seat reservation or you have already added a seat reservation, you can change your seat free of charge within the same seat category, subject to availability. Please note that you will have to pay a fee if you want to upgrade your seat to a higher category, e.g. from a Classic Seat to an Extra Legroom Seat.

The preferred seating area is located in the front part of Economy Class, directly behind Premium Economy or Business Class. A seat in the preferred seating area gives you more flexibility as it allows you to leave the aircraft quickly after landing.

Yes, we also offer reservations for Extra Legroom Seats. Please note that some of these seats are located in the emergency exit rows.

To reserve a seat in the emergency exit row, the following conditions apply:

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • You must speak fluent German or English and be willing to provide assistance in the unlikely event of an emergency.
  • You must be capable of reading and understanding instructions and carrying out the crew’s directions in an emergency.
  • You must be capable of carrying out the tasks given to you without assistance from a travelling companion, parent or another family member.
  • You must not be travelling with a person who would be dependent on your help in the event of an emergency.
  • You must not have a condition or responsibility that might prevent you from performing these functions.
  • You must not be travelling with a small animal in the aircraft cabin.

HON Circle Members and Senators have the option of reserving Extra Legroom Seats free of charge for themselves and those travelling with them on the same booking reference on flights with Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS. This benefit is subject to availability and does not apply to Economy Light fare bookings on short-haul flights. With the Economy Light fare, the option of selecting Extra Legroom Seats free of charge is only available on short-haul routes to HON Circle Members during online check-in.

Brussels Airlines may allocate another seat to passengers who do not meet these preconditions to ensure safety on board. Failure to meet with these requirements will invalidate a booking for one of these passenger seats. You are not entitled to a refund of the charge paid. You will be allocated a different passenger seat at the airport or on board. The crew will decide in the event of any doubts.

Please note that your carry-on baggage must be stowed in the overhead bins, as items must not be placed in the seating area or under the seats during take-off and landing.
