Seat reservation

The journey is as important as the destination. That’s why you get the possibility to choose your favourite seat category in advance. Do you need more comfort and extra legroom? Is it important for you to disembark quickly? Or do you simply enjoy seeing the world from above? Secure your favourite seat category by selecting it in advance!

How can I choose my seat in advance?

You can secure your favorite seat category when booking your flight(s) or you can choose one at a later stage after booking. It is possible to reserve a chargeable seat up to 2 hours before departure via ‘My booking’.

If you didn’t secure your seat in advance, we will assign you one automatically during online check-in. If you wish to change your assigned seat, you can do so during the online check-in for a fee depending on the fare and selected seat category. This fee does not apply to passengers who have booked a seat in advance, provided that the newly selected seat is in the same or in a lower seat category.

Which seats can I select?

Classic Seat

Do you prefer a window seat or an aisle seat? Or do you want to make sure that you and your friends or family can sit together? Secure the seat category of your choice in advance and avoid having one randomly assigned to you. The price for reserving a Classic Seat depends on the length of your flight and your destination, and is free of charge on the Flex fare.

Extra Legroom Seat

Enjoy more freedom and stretch your legs. Book an Extra Legroom Seat and treat yourself to an even more relaxing flight. They are located at the emergency exits, meaning that you must meet the safety requirements for emergency exit seats.

Preferred Zone Seat

The preferred seating zone is located in the front part of Economy Class. These seats enable you to leave the plane quickly after landing, making your journey even easier and more flexible. The price of reserving a Preferred Zone Seat depends on the length of your flight and your destination.

Business Extra space seat

A seat with no immediate neighbours and the advantage of two wide armrests on each side of the seat. When travelling in Business Class on intercontinental flights, you can select the Extra space seat against a fee. Enjoy the extra space to work undisturbed or to relax in your reclining seat.

What are the requirements for advanced seat reservations when rebooking or refunding a ticket?

If you have an existing advance seat reservation, you can rebook or cancel your ticket easily and conveniently yourself via “My bookings”.

Please note that a confirmed advance seat reservation does not guarantee you a specific seat on board the aircraft (e.g. seat 3A). The advance seat reservation refers to the chosen seat category (e.g. Classic Seat, Preferred Zone Seat, Extra Legroom Seat, etc.).

An advance seat reservation applies to a single leg of your flight.

Please note that advance seat reservations are not refundable, either at the airport or on board.

When you book a seat in an emergency exit row, you must be able to meet the legal requirements. These will be explained to you during the booking process. Should you not meet these requirements, you will be allocated a different seat and you are not entitled to a refund.

If your advance seat reservation is changed unexpectedly, the following cancellation and refund conditions apply:

In the event of an operational change (e.g. a change of aircraft type or travel route), we will try to rebook you in the same seat category you have previously booked. However, the seat number you chose before may change. If we are unable to rebook you in the same seat category, your advance seat reservation is refundable.

Your advance seat reservation is also refundable if we cancel your flight.

If you make changes to your booking yourself, the following conditions apply to cancellations and refunds:

Changing your advance seat reservation without changing your flight

If you have made an advanced seat reservation for your flight and wish to change your seat, price differences may occur regardless of the selected seat category. If the price for the newly selected seat is higher, the difference must be paid.

Changing your advance seat reservation and your flight

If you change your flight and the route remains the same, you can transfer your advance seat reservation to the new flight. This can result in price differences regardless of the seat category selected. If the price for the newly selected seat is higher, the price difference must be paid.

Should you also change your flight route, you may incur additional costs.

Refund for your advance seat reservation without your flight being refunded

Advance seat reservations alone are not refunded. However, if you have purchased an upgrade to a higher travel class, the advance seat reservation you previously purchased is refundable. Free upgrades that we offer as a goodwill gesture or for operational reasons do not entitle you to a refund for your prior advance seat reservation.

Refund of your advance seat reservation together with the cancellation and refund of the flight

A refund of the advance seat reservation together with a flight cancellation is possible if the fare conditions allow for a refund.

Please note that for unused tickets, the following refund conditions apply:

Continental routes: 

If your first flight allows for a refund, but the second flight does not, a refund for the second flight and advance seat reservation is not possible.

If your second flight allows for a refund, the ticket and advance seat reservation can be refunded in the event of a cancellation.

Intercontinental routes:

Just as the fare conditions of a flight leg do not allow for a refund, the advance seat reservation for the unused leg is also non-refundable, regardless of whether this is the outbound or return flight.

Good to know

With a confirmed seat reservation, you have not purchased the right to a specific seat number (e.g. seat 4A). A seat reservation states a choice for a seat category such as an aisle or a window seat. 

We reserve the right to change the seat allocation at any time, even after the boarding of the aircraft, for operational, security or safety reasons or for reasons of Force Majeure.

In this event, Brussels Airlines will do its utmost to provide you with a seat with the same features (window/aisle) and adjacent seating.

Infants (0 – 2 years) are not required to have their own seat and can travel on their parent’s lap. However, if you wish to bring a car seat or a carrier, you will need to book a seat for your baby. You can book a seat for your baby via our Service Centre.

When travelling with your pet in the cabin, you will normally be seated in a window seat. If you are travelling with a service animal, you will normally be seated where there is sufficient floor space for the animal.

Travelling with an animal is subject to availability and must be booked together with your flight via our Service Centre.

HON Circle Members and Senators have the opportunity to reserve their favorite seats for themselves and all companions under the same booking number on flights with Brussels Airlines, Austrian, Lufthansa and SWISS free of charge. This privilege is subject to availability and does not apply to bookings in the Economy Light fare on short-haul flights. Free seat selection with Economy Light fare on short-haul flights is only available to HON Circle Members during online check-in.

If you require more space during your flight, we give you the possibility to book a vacant seat next to yours for an even more comfortable trip.  

In some cases, we recommend you book an extra seat for personal comfort if:

  • You would like more space for your personal comfort.
  • If you are limited by physical constraints.

Depending on your booking, you can reserve your extra seat for personal comfort and make sure that it's guaranteed to remain empty.

If part of your flight is flown by a selected partner airline and booked in combination with a Lufthansa Group flight, we offer you the opportunity to choose a seat in advance. Retrieve your trip under ‘My booking’ to see if you’re eligible to book a seat with the partner airline. Passengers travelling together will automatically be seated next to each other. Advance seat reservations with other airlines are not binding and the terms and conditions of the operating carrier apply. You can visit the respective website for more information.

In accordance with the ENAC regulation, you are entitled to a free seat reservation at the time of check-in for flights to and from Italy if you meet the following conditions:

  • You are traveling with a child between the ages of 2 and 12 
  • You are a passenger with a disability or accompanying one.

In these cases, our colleagues from Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa or SWISS will seat you together free of charge during check-in.
