Brussels Airlines SA (hereinafter “Brussels Airlines” or “we”) attaches great importance to the digital accessibility of its services for people with disabilities. We have an ongoing commitment to providing all users with an inclusive and accessible online experience. Our goal is to make our services easy for everyone to find, access, use and understand.
Scope of this information
This information on accessibility applies to the services within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2019/882 and its implementation laws in the Member States of the European Union, which the company of the Lufthansa Group listed in the legal notice with their name and address offers or provides on the website https://www.brusselsairlines.com/ .
It was prepared on 28/06/2025 and will be reviewed and updated as needed in accordance with the applicable legal and technical standards.
Description of applicable requirements
The applicable accessibility requirements for services can be found in the legislation enacted by the Member States of the European Union to implement Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on accessibility requirements for products and services (“European Accessibility Act” or “EAA”). In implementing Annex V to Directive (EU) 2019/882, this also entails the obligation to provide and publish information on the accessibility of services.
In Germany, the applicable accessibility requirements are set out in the Accessibility Improvement Act (“BFSG”), for services from Section 3 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Section 1(3) BFSG and from the Ordinance on the BFSG (BFSGV), which was issued on the basis of Section 3(2) BFSG. The obligation to create and provide information on accessibility for services follows from Section 14(1) BFSG in conjunction with Appendix 3 to Sections 14 and 28 BFSG in conjunction with the BFSGV.
The applicable accessibility requirements also follow from the national, European and international legal norms referenced in these legislative acts. The state of the art must be observed when fulfilling the requirements for services. The harmonised European standard EN 301 549 applies in this regard; Annex A thereof declares the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (“WCAG”), currently conformance levels 2.1 A and AA, to be binding.
General description of the service
Brussels Airlines SA is a global airline. Its services on this website consist of offering customers the option of booking flights and travel-related services, receiving travel information, managing customer data and using additional services such as seat selection, baggage options or check-in via electronic communication channels.
The Lufthansa Group offers this service to several of its airlines, including Deutsche Lufthansa, SWISS International Air Lines AG (“SWISS”), Austrian Airlines AG (“Austrian Airlines”), Brussels Airlines SA (“Brussels Airlines”), Eurowings GmbH (“Eurowings”) and EW Discover GmbH (“Eurowings Discover”). These airlines serve numerous national and international destinations in scheduled and charter flights.
You can find detailed information about the flights and services offered by the respective carrier on the Lufthansa Group websites, for example at www.brusselsairlines.com. Explanations about the services offered are also available there.
Descriptions and explanations which are required to understand how the service is performed
Before booking a flight via our website, the first step is to find out about flight connections, fare options and additional services. After selecting the desired flight connection and entering the travel dates, a personalised flight offer is displayed. This offer includes, among other things, information about the total price, possible luggage options and additional services like advance seat reservation or rebooking options.
The booking is completed and becomes legally binding by clicking the "Book now" button. Customers then receive a booking confirmation by email and access to their travel data in the customer account or via the app.
Detailed information on travel itineraries, baggage regulations, check-in procedures and other services can be found on our website at www.brusselsairlines.com. Initial contents in plain language are also available there. Other accessibility options, such as for people with reduced mobility or sensory impairments, are also described there.
Description of how the service meets the relevant accessibility requirements
As part of an established procedure to ensure continuous compliance with the accessibility requirements, we implement the harmonised European standard EN 301 549 and the referenced WCAG in the conformity level corresponding to the state of the art.
According to this, the services must be designed to make them
- perceptible (i.e. the information and components of the services must be presented to the users in such a way that they can perceive them),
- operable (i.e. users must be able to handle the components of the services and navigation),
- understandable (i.e. the information and handling of the services must be understandable) and
- robust (i.e. content must be robust enough to be reliably interpreted by a variety of technical tools, including supporting technologies)
.WCAG provides guidelines on how services for people with disabilities can be perceived, operated, understandable and robustly designed in a user-friendly manner. There are currently three conformance levels. In accordance with the European standards, we implement conformance levels 2.1 A and AA.
For this purpose, the following measures, among others, are implemented on an ongoing basis:
- Reviews: We regularly conduct both automatic and manual accessibility audits to systematically review our digital offerings for compliance with the requirements of WCAG 2.1, compliance level A, AA and standard EN 301 549.
- Training: we provide continuous and comprehensive training to our content managers, designers and developers. This ensures that they are familiar with the best practices for accessibility and can take these principles into account at every stage of content creation and development.
- Integration into the development cycle: accessibility is integrated into the entire cycle of our software development; from the initial design and planning to testing and deployment, a “born accessible” approach is adopted whenever possible.
- Specialised Accessibility Team: we have a specialised team responsible for conducting and monitoring accessibility initiatives on our digital platforms.
Our website has been extensively reviewed by our internal accessibility experts based on the applicable accessibility standards.
In addition to our internal procedures, our website has been reviewed by external accessibility experts. We have also tested our website for barriers in collaboration with people with disabilities.
We are continuously working to improve how we provide our services in accordance with all legal requirements. We offer contact options for communicating accessibility issues and suggestions for improvement.
