Seat reservation

The journey is as important as the destination. That’s why you get the possibility to choose your favourite seat category in advance. Do you need more comfort and extra legroom? Is it important for you to disembark quickly? Or do you simply enjoy seeing the world from above? Secure your favourite seat category by selecting it in advance!

Which seats can I select?

Standard seat

Do you prefer a window seat or an aisle seat? Or do you want to make sure that you and your friends or family can sit together? Secure the seat category of your choice in advance and avoid having one randomly assigned to you. Depending on your fare, your seat selection is free of charge.

Depending on the length of your flight and destination, the price for a Standard seat in Economy Class ranges between 14 and 39 euros per passenger. In Premium Economy Class, the price ranges between 33 and 66 euros. For some fares, the seat selection is free of charge.

Extra legroom seat

Enjoy more freedom and stretch your legs. Book a seat category with extra legroom and treat yourself to an even more relaxing flight. Our extra legroom seats are located at the emergency exits, meaning that you must meet the ​safety requirements for emergency exit seats.

Depending on the length of your flight and destination, the price for an Extra legroom seat ranges between 29 and 110 euros per passenger.

Preferred zone seat

The preferred seating zone is located in the front part of Economy Class. These seats enable you to leave the plane quickly after landing, making your journey even easier and more flexible. Depending on your fare, your seat selection is free of charge.

Depending on the length of your flight and destination, the price for a seat in the Preferred zone ranges between 20 and 61 euros per passenger. For some fares, the seat selection is free of charge.

Business Extra space seat

A seat with no immediate neighbours and the advantage of two wide armrests on each side of the seat. When travelling in Business Class on intercontinental flights, you can select the Extra space seat against a fee. Enjoy the extra space to work undisturbed or to relax in your reclining seat.

Depending on the length of your flight and destination, the price for a Business Extra space seat ranges between 109 and 229 euros per passenger.

How can I choose my seat in advance?

You can secure your favourite seat category when booking your flight(s) or you can choose one up to 24 hours before the scheduled departure time of your flight.

Secure your seat

For flights operated by Lufthansa, you can secure your seat up to 52 hours before the scheduled departure time of your flight. For flights operated by Austrian or SWISS, the deadline is 48 hours before the scheduled departure time.

Did you book a flight with special assistance? ​Contact us or get in touch with your (online) travel agency to secure your seat.

If you didn’t secure your seat in advance, we will assign you one. If you wish to change your assigned seat, you can do so during the online check-in for a fee. At the airport, you can always ask if you can book another seat that is still available.

What happens if my flight gets cancelled or rebooked?

In case of a rebooking on the same route, you keep the same seat reservation or (depending on availability) get reseated to a lower seat category. If you rebook your flight and want a higher seat category, the amount of your existing seat reservation will be credited to the new one. If you rebook on another route, the amount paid for your seat reservation will not be refunded and cannot be credited to a new seat reservation.

If your preferred seat category is not available because of a flight cancellation or an involuntary rebooking on a new flight, Brussels Airlines will refund the amount paid. If this is the case for you, ​contact us to request your refund.

When you purchase an upgrade after having booked your preferred seat, the amount paid for your seat reservation will be refunded.

Good to know

With a confirmed seat reservation, you have not purchased the right to a specific seat number (e.g. seat 4A). A seat reservation states a choice for a seat category such as an aisle or a window seat. 

We reserve the right to change the seat allocation at any time, even after the boarding of the aircraft, for operational, security or safety reasons or for reasons of Force Majeure.

In this event, Brussels Airlines will do its utmost to provide you with a seat with the same features (window/aisle) and adjacent seating.

Infants (0 – 2 years) are not required to have their own seat and can travel on their parent’s lap. However, if you wish to bring a car seat or a carrier, you will need to book a seat for your baby. You can book a seat for your baby via our Service Centre.

When travelling with your pet in the cabin, you will normally be seated in a window seat. If you are travelling with a service animal, you will normally be seated where there is sufficient floor space for the animal.

Travelling with an animal is subject to availability and must be booked together with your flight via our Service Centre.

On Brussels Airlines operated flights, HON Circle members and Senators have the possibility to reserve their favourite seat free of charge for themselves and all companions in the same PNR. This privilege is subject to availability and not applicable to bookings made in Economy Light on short-haul flights and for extra legroom on long-haul flights.

If you require more space during your flight, we give you the possibility to book a vacant seat next to yours for an even more comfortable trip.  

In some cases, we recommend you book a vacant neighbour seat if:

  • You would like more space for your personal comfort.
  • If you are limited by physical constraints.

Depending on your booking, you can reserve your vacant neighbour seat and make sure that it's guaranteed to remain empty.

Depending on the length of your flight and destination, the price for an extra seat ranges between 59 and 179 euros per passenger.

If part of your flight is flown by a selected partner airline and booked in combination with a Lufthansa Group flight, we offer you the opportunity to choose a seat in advance. Retrieve your trip under ‘My bookings’ to see if you’re eligible to book a seat with the partner airline. Passengers travelling together will automatically be seated next to each other. Advance seat reservations with other airlines are not binding and the terms and conditions of the operating carrier apply. You can visit the respective website for more information.

In accordance with the ENAC regulation, you are entitled to a free seat reservation at the time of check-in for flights to and from Italy if you meet the following conditions:

  • You are traveling with a child between the ages of 2 and 12 
  • You are a passenger with a disability or accompanying one.

In these cases, our colleagues from Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa or SWISS will seat you together free of charge during check-in.
